Student Athletes

Eligibility Requirements

Residential Eligibility

CIF Bylaw 206 states you must reside within the district boundaries, meaning your primary residence is within the district boundaries. All transfer students must complete a CIF transfer form to be eligible to participate. This applies to transfers of any kind (family move, interdistrict transfer, living with relatives, etc.). If you have previously attended another high school, please see the Athletic Director.

Academic Eligibility

Student-athletes must be currently enrolled in and passing 20 semester or trimester units. In addition, student-athletes must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA for all enrolled courses on a scale of 4.0 at the most recent grading period. Only official grading periods can be used for eligibility.

Health Clearance

Athletes must complete and submit all paperwork and an updated sports physical that will last through the calendar year. Athletes should complete requested paperwork and upload all information into SportsWare in order to be cleared.

Observable & Interruptible Contact

All adult contact with student-athletes must be observable and interruptible by another adult.  One-on-one contact between an adult and a student-athlete is not permitted.

Contact includes communication. Any communication outside of practice and/or competition must:

  • Occur on District-approved platforms (e.g. ParentSquare, StudentSquare, Google Classroom, Aeries, etc.) or in writing through text, District email,  student District email, etc.

  • Be open and transparent

  • Include the entire team (*If individual communication is necessary, it must include a fellow coach or the Athletic Director)

Social Media

  • Official accounts for individual teams are owned by the District and managed by the Athletic Director or administrator from site.

  • Photos or videos from public competition are posted on an approved platform.

  • Posted photos or videos are contextually appropriate and viewable by parents/ guardians.

  • College recruiting applications (MaxPreps. BeRecruited. DraftCard. AthleticU. SchollyME. Hudl.), though permitted, may NOT be used for SLCUSD Coach to student 1:1 communication.

Our Student-Athletes Do Not:

  • Engage in one-to-one contact on social media between athletics staff and student-athletes.

  • Post anything that would be in violation of the District’s Bullying Policy.

  • Post anything that would be in violation of the District’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.

  • Post anything that would be in violation of CIF Regulations.
