California Science Test (CAST)
The California Science Test (CAST) is part of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The CAST measures what students know and can do using the California Next Generation Science Standards, which focus on understanding the scientific concepts found in the Earth and Space Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. CAST is given to students in 5th and 8th grade and once during high school. Since the CAST is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), SLCUSD gives the CAST to 11th Grade students. However, the state requires that any 12th grade student who did not take the CAST in 11th grade, must take the assessment in 12th grade.
The video below provides a general overview of the California Science Test (CAST) and how it is aligned with the California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS).
