California Alternate Assessment (CAA)

The California Alternate Assessments (CAAs)  - ELA, Math, & Science are part of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Designed for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities, the CAAs for ELA and mathematics are an annual measure of what students know and can do using alternate achievement standards. Students who are in 3rd-8th and 11th who have an IEP and whose IEP team determines they meet participation criteria for the alternate assessment, take the CAAs for ELA and mathematics. Students who are in 5th and 8th grade and once in high school (10th, 11th, or 12th grade), whose IEP identifies the use of alternate assessments, take the CAA for Science.

After each administration of the CAA exam, families are provided with a Student Score Report (SSR) that informs families about their student's mastery. The videos below will help families understand these reports:
