Upper grade students may remember the expression “Bafana Bafana” from the CYRM book, Goal!  by Mina Javaherbin.  Goal! is an uplifting and inspiring book about how a group of South African boys’ passion for soccer unites the community and helps them endure the realities of poverty and bullies.

Bafana Bafana, “the boys,” is the affectionate name that the people of South Africa call their national football team.

Pictured here is Angie sharing her “Bafana Bafana” souvenir her brother so kindly brought back for her from his World Cup, 2010 visit to South Africa.
