The Board of Education is comprised of seven elected trustees.  Four of those members reside in what is known as "Trustee Area 1" - the City of San Luis Obispo, Avila Beach, a portion of Pismo Beach (north of Spyglass and west of Hwy 101), and the unincorporated areas between those communities to the outer boundary.   The remaining three trustees reside in Trustee Area 2 - the communities of Los Osos and Morro Bay.  Jointly, all seven represent the whole district and set guiding policies.
