Frequently Asked Questions

What benefits does San Luis Coastal provide?

We offer excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance plans. All permanent classified, certificated, and management employees are eligible for insurance.

Do I need to submit a separate application for each position?

  • Classified Positions - Yes. You may submit a photocopy of your application; however, you must indicate on the application the specific position title for which you are applying. Each position requires a specific supplemental application which must be submitted also.
  • Certificated Positions - No. If your application has been submitted within the past two years, you may simply submit a letter of interest in the new vacancy and respond to the Supplemental Application questions. You may also submit new letters of reference at that time.

May I leave a copy of my resume on file for future job vacancies?

No. Only applications for current vacancies will be accepted.

How long after I apply might I be called for an interview?

This varies widely depending on the position for which you are applying. All applicants will receive either a phone call or a letter.

What is your staffing ratio?

The staffing ratio across the District is approximately 24.16 per elementary teacher and 31 per secondary teacher. This includes 20:1 class-size reduction in grades 1, 2, and 3.

What schools are in your District?

The San Luis Coastal Unified School District encompasses the communities of Los Osos, Morro Bay, and San Luis Obispo. We serve pre-K through adults with their educational needs.

How do I get an Emergency Substitute Teaching Permit?

You need to have obtained a Bachelor's Degree and passed the CBEST exam. You may then apply for a 30-Day Emergency Substitute Teaching Permit through the County Office of Education on Highway One, opposite Cuesta College. Refer to their website link on the Personnel Division home page.
