Welcome to Food Services! This is a very exciting time in school food service. As people have become increasingly aware of the correlation between diet and health, school cafeterias across the country have stepped up to help students develop optimal eating habits.
Here in San Luis Obispo County, we put great emphasis on fresh fruits and vegetables. Being located in this great agricultural area, we are able to benefit from the wonderful abundance of locally grown produce. Each of our school cafeterias has a salad bar featuring a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Whole grains are also a part of a healthy diet. Many whole grain breads and other bakery products are offered. Sometimes whole grain can be found unexpectedly – as in our banana bread and carrot cake.
The central kitchen for the school district is located on the Laguna Middle School campus. Here, the baker, cook and salad/sandwich experts prepare fresh food for the students. Los Osos Middle School, Morro Bay High and San Luis Obispo High each have their own production kitchens.
Nutrient analysis of the menus is done in order to insure that the strict nutrition standards of the child nutrition programs are met. We take great pride in caring for the health of our students. Thus, we do not fry food. We avoid trans fat. We serve milk that is free of antibiotics and added hormones.
We welcome your questions, comments and suggestions!
