Students may be qualified to receive free or reduced price meals either through a Meal Application or through Direct Certification.
Meal Application Eligibility is based upon income versus the number of people in the household, in accordance with guidelines set by the federal government. Please submit only ONE application per household – even if you have children at different schools in the school district. (Note: Eligibility for foster children is based upon the child’s personal use income. Monies provided for the child’s care are excluded.) Direct Certification Students may be authorized to receive free meals based upon any of the following:
• Recipient of Food Stamps or CalWORKs benefits, as certified by the Department of Social Services.
• Homeless, as certified by the SLCUSD Family Resource Coordinator.
• In a Migrant Education Program, as certified by the Migrant Education Program.
Meal eligibility must be renewed each school year! Eligibility for free or reduced meals from the 2017-18 school year will expire on October 6. Please submit a new application prior to that date to ensure continuation of benefits.
For returning students, the eligibility for free or reduced price meals expires after the first 30 days of the new school year, unless re-qualified for free or reduced price meals.
