All mathematics courses in SLCUSD are aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The level of rigor and deep learning of concepts is a new expectation for all students. Students will no longer be expected to only excel on a multiple choice test, but to have a deep conceptual understanding.
In response to enrollment restrictions imposed on the Bishop's Peak/Teach School shared campus for the 2013-2014 school year, the Superintendent formed an Advisory Committee (ALC) on School Capacity and Accelerated Learning Opportunities. The Committee met from June through October 2013. The ALC Recommendations to the Superintendent were shared at the November 5 meeting of the Board of Education. The Superintendent presented his recommendation at the November 19, 2013, Board meeting.
The Board approved the recommendation which, in brief, will relocate Teach School to the "Old Pacheco" campus at 165 Grand Avenue, San Luis Obispo. This move provides an opportunity for Teach Elementary School to re-build its identity independent of Bishop's Peak Elementary School, and provides breathing room for the Bishop's Peak campus.
During the 2013-14 year, most tenants at the Old Pacheco campus are being notified that their leases will not be renewed beyond June 2014. One remaining tenant, the SLO Classical Academy, has a lease through 2015 and will share this campus with Teach School. Negotiations are ongoing about sharing common spaces such as the multipurpose room and playground. During the summer of 2014, Teach School will be relocated into renovated classrooms.
